JOB FOR DREAMER - JUST A DREAM?
Since
Trump declared war on DACA in March, its place remains due to Supreme Court
decisions. However, DACA recipients - also called Dreamers - are not only
perturbed by their uncertain future but also by their present hardships such as
getting a job. Being in the DACA program means that undocumented young
immigrants qualify to work and study in the U.S. Still they cannot always
enforce their right.
The stories of Dreamers being denied from
jobs are coming to light meanwhile the administration is sued for not ending
DACA. Young Dreamers who feel passionate about their country applied for DACA
with trust but also with the risk of being put on the map. What did they
receive in exchange for their trust?
According to NBC news Daniel Marques - who graduated
from Kean university - felt at his interview at Allied Wealth Partners that
there would be a positive outcome but when he told he was a Dreamer the
interviewers informed him that the company policy did not allow the employment
of him.
David Rodriguez - another Dreamer attending
Florida International University -, while applying for an internship at Procter
and Gamble, said to have received almost the same answer.
These two educated men are represented by
lawyers suing the companies for discriminatory employment practices. The first
company - declining the application of Marques - did not comment the incident,
the second firm claimed to have employees who are DACA recipients.
Mr. Marques told he was also refused by the
Bank of America where he was praised for his qualifications but denied for his
"limited" work opportunity. According to the Department of Homeland
Security, the future expiration of work permit cannot be a reason for refusal.
The court will decide if these alleged
discriminations are valid or the ghost of Dreamers' permanent fear.
